Southern Housing Group has been confirmed as the official affordable housing provider for the Kidbrooke Regeneration project in Greenwich. The scheme, which will transform the former Ferrier Estate, is a partnership between Greenwich Council, Berkeley Homes, Southern Housing Group, LHA-ASRA and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
Southern Housing Group, one of southern England’s largest housing associations, will deliver 229 of the 456 homes in phase one, contributing to a mix of social and intermediate rent, shared equity and market sale housing.
The HCA London Board, which is chaired by the Mayor, Boris Johnson, recently approved funding of just over £30 million for the first phase of the scheme. This funding comes from HCA London’s National Affordable Housing Programme and complements investment in infrastructure already made by the Agency at Kidbrooke.
Work should start on the new homes by the autumn, and developer Berkeley Homes and partners will be consulting local residents on the second phase soon.
Dale Meredith, Southern Housing Group’s Development Director, said:
“Southern Housing Group has been working in partnership with Greenwich Council, Berkeley Homes and the HCA to finalise this key regeneration scheme and enable it to proceed. As the official Registered Social Landlord, this is a major step forward in delivering the affordable housing that will help transform the lives of local people.”
Cllr Chris Roberts, Leader of Greenwich Council, said:
"Greenwich Council's long-standing commitment to the Kidbrooke Regeneration project is based on our determination to improve the quality of life for people who live and work there.
”Kidbrooke is set to develop as a flourishing new urban district, and the social housing announced this week will help ensure that the scheme is able to make a substantial contribution to the housing needs of Londoners."
David Lunts, HCA London Regional Director said:
“The HCA is unlocking major regeneration schemes in the capital by tailoring investment packages for individual projects. Our new approach to investment and the flexibilities we are working with mean that London will benefit from a supply of new and affordable homes in high quality environments. This development activity will also keep hundreds of Londoners in much needed employment.”
John Anderson, Chairman of Berkeley Homes (Urban Developments) said:
"This is an exciting scheme that will bring much-needed improvements to housing and amenities for the local community, and these can only be delivered through the hard work of all of the partners involved. This funding from the HCA is vital in enabling us to move forward with the first phase of regeneration at Kidbrooke."
